The Seedling Project

Exciting times are ahead for everyone at ASCT as the building  of our new residential home to replace Mango Tree House progresses. The outer wall has been finished and the building itself is going up. The new project is to the  north of Manila, much closer to Cashew Tree School and the majority of our Grapevine children. The new home is being built adjacent to Papaya School, run by a Dutch charity, a school with whom we have close ties.

There are several reasons for the move:

  • We hope to increase the number of residential children from 35 to 50.
  • Cutting down on travelling costs.
  • Better use of staff by cutting down on travelling times.
  • Better environment for children, out of the city centre.
  • It is hoped that the children will be able to attend Papaya School, where class sizes are much smaller that the state schools and standards are higher.
  • Grapevine children will be able to use the new facilities.

The hope is that it will be completed by the start of the next school year in June 2009. Your response as supporters has been tremendous and we have been deeply appreciative of the offers of help, in both gifts and loans. We have no Federal reserve to save us if things go wrong, so as you can appreciate in such financially unstable times as these, we must be realistic and proceed in faith as well. We are still short of funds especially loans to bridge the gap until Mango Tree House can be sold. If you are able to help in offering us an interest free loan please contact Alison in the ASCT office.
