Volunteer Programme
We receive a number of requests each year from students who want to work as Volunteers with our projects in Manila.
This not only significantly helps our staff but also gives an experience of a lifetime to those
selected. If you would like to volunteer, normally for a minimum period of 3 months,
we can send you further details of what is required of you, the selection process, and what you can expect from working
in the Philippines.
Becoming an ASCT Trustee We are currently looking to recruit new ASCT
Trustees. The job is very rewarding and entails no financial
liability. Sue Hitchins, has written of her experience:
‘Several years ago I was an ordinary supporter
of ASCT. I am still an ordinary supporter but I am now a
Trustee. Following the invitation my mind went into overdrive. What
would it involve in time, decision-making and responsibility? To enable both myself and the existing Trustees
to get to know each other, and to give me some understanding of what
the role involved I was invited along to the Trustee meetings.
Several meetings later I agreed to become a fully-fledged Trustee.
The time involved? We have four formal evening meetings a
year and one whole day. Some time is spent at fund raising
functions, not at all onerous. The meetings are professionally run
but informal and relaxed. Obviously decisions have to be made but we
work together and arrive at joint decisions, it is team
responsibility not individual. What qualities do I think are needed? A genuine
interest in and commitment to ASCT. What I have gained is a real
appreciation of the marvellous work going on in the Philippines with
the children, a greater appreciation of my own ‘wealth’, and several
new friends.’
